Nursing Home/Retirement Home Services

The Cedar Falls Public Library also loans out collections of large print books and audio books on a rotating basis to various nursing/retirement homes and senior apartment complexes in Cedar Falls. Trained volunteers are also available to read to nursing home/retirement home residents. For more information or to access the volunteer reader service, please call the library at 273-8643 or e-mail Volunteer/Homebound Coordinator, Sherry Heins.

Sherry Heins also teaches monthly reminiscence or memory stimulation classes at several Cedar Falls nursing/retirement facilities. These classes have proved to be particularly popular, perhaps because the leader chooses to use the fascinating Bi-Folkal reminiscence kits as the basis for many of her programs. The Cedar Falls and Waterloo Public Libraries purchased several of these kits with IMLS/LSTA funds. Other libraries as well as nursing facility staff around the state can now borrow these kits from our metro area libraries at no charge. Click here to access a listing of reminiscence kits and other nursing home program materials available for you to borrow.
