Aids and Equipment

Vision Aids

The Library also offers a variety of vision aids for visually impaired patrons to borrow for extended periods of time. Such items include: hand-held magnifiers (lighted and unlighted), and book stands. These can all be found at the first floor information desk.

If you would like to borrow one of these devices and cannot get to the library to pick it up, please email Betsy Kirk or call 291-4497, ext. 3842 to arrange delivery.

In addition, the second floor now has two aids for visually impaired patrons to use on-site. The TV type low vision aid magnifies items up to 65 times using soft touch controls and auto focus. Patrons can view books, family photos, cards, maps, etc. in black on white, white on black and vivid color. The TV low-vision aid sits on an adjustable height table accompanied by a comfortable, armless chair in order to accommodate those patrons with mobility concerns. A moveable pole magnifier is also available for patrons to use on-site.

All the second-floor computers now have the capability of enlarging print - thereby increasing computer accessibility to those patrons with low vision.

Mobility Aids

Elderly or disabled patrons can use our motorized cart and new wheelchair to help them move about the library more easily. These devices are housed in a special niche right next to the service desk. Just ask the staff for the key to the motorized cart. They will help retrieve the cart or the wheelchair for you.
